BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

BFT keypad and intercom repair in West Palm Beach typically costs between $185 and $420 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the intercom module, or the full entry station. We stock BFT-compatible keypads, intercom handsets, and power supplies on our trucks, so most repairs happen the same day we diagnose the problem. Most homeowners discover the failure the same way: the keypad lights up but won’t accept the code, or the intercom rings inside but you can’t hear the person at the gate, or worse, the gate works fine but you can’t tell who’s out there because the audio died weeks ago and you didn’t notice until a delivery driver called your cell phone.

The part itself usually isn’t complicated. What’s complicated is matching it to your exact BFT model, because BFT has changed keypad and intercom wiring across several series lines over the years. That’s where we spend most of our time on these jobs, and why we carry a range of compatible parts rather than one generic replacement.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

We service BFT keypads and intercoms across the Deimos, Rigel, Phobos, and older Thalia series lines that are common in West Palm Beach’s gated communities and older residential blocks around CityPlace, Flamingo Park, and Southland Park. The keypad on a Deimos BT A400 is not interchangeable with a Phobos keypad, even though both are BFT and both look similar from ten feet away. The connector pinouts are different, and wiring a Phobos keypad into a Deimos panel can fry the control board if you force it.

The fastest way to identify your part is to look for a small white label on the back of the keypad or intercom housing. BFT usually prints the model number there in tiny text, something like “KP-BT” or “DS-77” or a longer string that starts with “D1.” If the label is worn off, which happens often in South Florida sun and salt air, we identify it by the number of wires in the harness and the shape of the connector. For the intercom side, BFT’s audio modules come in 4-wire and 2-wire versions depending on the series. Mixing those up is the most common DIY mistake we see, and it’s the one that usually costs more to undo than the original repair would have cost.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: BFT OEM parts are well made, but they’re expensive and sometimes take two to three weeks to arrive. For keypad faces and intercom handsets, we often recommend quality aftermarket equivalents that match the voltage and wiring spec exactly. For control boards and power supplies, we stick with OEM because the tolerance on those parts is tighter, and a board that works at 23.8 volts instead of 24 volts will cause problems you won’t see for six months.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Keypad lights up but the gate won’t open. The keypad is receiving power, so the issue is usually the relay inside the keypad or a worn keypad membrane. Over time, the conductive pads under each button wear down, so the keypad thinks you’re pressing a different code than you are. If you notice you have to press “5” twice to get one response, that’s the membrane going.
  • Intercom rings but you hear static or nothing at all. This is almost always corrosion on the audio wire terminals, especially in West Palm Beach where humidity and salt air get into the housing. The fix is often as simple as cleaning the terminals and reseating the wires, but if the corrosion has worked its way up the wire itself, the wire needs to be replaced, not just cleaned.
  • Gate opens randomly without anyone pressing the keypad. A failing keypad relay can short internally and send an open signal on its own. This is not just annoying, it means your gate is opening when you don’t want it to, which defeats the point of a gate. We treat this as a same-day repair whenever we can.
  • The keypad flashes or resets itself when someone presses a button. That’s the sign of a power supply going soft. BFT keypads want a steady voltage, and when the transformer or power supply starts degrading, the keypad reboots under load. Replacing the power supply before it dies completely saves you a second service call.
  • You can hear the person at the gate, but they can’t hear you. Your intercom’s speaker works, but the microphone circuit has failed, or the mic hole is clogged with dirt and insect debris. We see ants build nests inside BFT intercom housings more often than you’d think, especially on gates near landscaping.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In West Palm Beach, a BFT keypad replacement runs $185 to $320 installed. An intercom module replacement runs $210 to $380. A combined keypad and intercom entry station replacement runs $290 to $420. The range depends on which series you have, whether we need OEM or can use a quality aftermarket part, and how much wire repair is involved. Older Thalia series systems with degraded wire runs cost more because we’re often replacing wire, not just the part.

Every price we quote is written down before any work starts. Parts and labor are itemized separately, and the price you approve is the price you pay. If we open the housing and find something else broken, we stop and show you before we do anything. You’ll never get a surprise invoice from us. The repair itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if it’s not right, we make it right. No argument, no fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check three things yourself. First, confirm the keypad has power by looking for the backlight. Second, check that the gate itself opens with the remote and the button inside, which tells you whether the problem is the keypad or the gate operator. Third, visually inspect the keypad for cracks, dirt, or ant activity. Those checks don’t require tools and won’t hurt anything.

What we don’t recommend is opening the housing and probing wires yourself. BFT keypads and intercoms run on low voltage, but the wire runs connect to the gate operator’s control board, and a short on the wrong terminal can take out the board, which turns a $200 keypad repair into a $600 control board replacement. If you’ve done the three checks and the keypad still isn’t behaving, call us at (728) 203-0817. We’ll come look, tell you what it needs, and give you the written price before we touch anything.
